5 Not So Obvious Tips to Longer and Healthier Hair.

This week Colour has collected some key tricks that are often overlooked in the quest to maintain longer and healthier hair. Here are simple (and free!) but effective tricks you can implement into your daily routine.


1. Stay Hydrated
It's a well known fact that water plays a significant part on the journey to clear skin but people often forget that it's also an important contributing factor to healthy hair. Getting your proper daily water intake ensures that you're helping flush out toxins and helps the body function properly.
2. Get Adequate Sleep
The adult body needs about 7-9 hours of sleep a night and if you're getting less than that, you are cheating yourself of essential rest you need for your body to function correctly. The appropriate amount of sleep will give your body proper time to repair itself, detox, and release growth hormones.
3. Switch Your Ponytail and Part Placement
If you constantly wear your ponytails in the same position or have your hair parted on the same side every day, you may want to consider switching it up. Change the side that you part your hair on or go from a high ponytail to a low. When you consistently style your hair the same way, you are continuously applying tension to the same strands and weakening them, subsequently causing breakage.

4. Always Finish Washing or Conditioning Your Hair With A Cold Rinse
Make sure to do a cold-water rinse at the end of each shampoo or condition. Cold water lays down the outer layer of hair more smoothly, which helps prevent moisture loss, snags and heat damage. Rinsing with cold water also helps to seal the cuticle and strengthen your hair before styling it.
5. Avoid Harshly Rubbing Your Hair Dry With A Towel
Vigorously drying your hair with a towel is destructive to your hair’s cuticles and the outer layer of each strand of hair. The coarse texture and dryness of a cotton or terry cloth towel can cause damage. Instead of a towel, try drying your hair with a t-shirt, patting hair to soak up moisture.
